Pinterest is an excellent way for businesses to build their visibility and expand their customer base, even using a Pinterest board cover believe it or not.

As one of the most popular social media sites in the world, Pinterest has 478 million monthly active users and 80% of those users have made purchases based on pins they’ve seen.

Boards are a great way to keep your pins organized, making it easier for users to find and browse your content.

Today, I’ll be showing you how to get the most out of your Pinterest boards with board covers. I know for some they say don’t waste your time on this for just branding BUT I do this in a fun strategic way that is still set up in your strategy to bring in engagement and traffic to your brand too!

Why You Need Pinterest Boards

Pinterest boards come with a number of benefits, but the most important one is increasing the effectiveness of your branding.

How to have your brand stand out on Pinterest

With thousands of brands all competing for the attention of Pinterest users, it can be hard to make yours stand out. Which is why branding is important.

Having heavily branded content, pins, and boards is a great way to make your content stand out, be more appealing, and appear more professional.

How do I make my boards on Pinterest look good?

We’ve spoken before about how the consistency of content and the use of good SEO keywords and hashtags are important to getting your content to the top of Pinterest’s search results.

However, that’s only half the equation. Once your audience can search out your content, what they find needs to be visually appealing. That’s where Pinterest board covers come in.

Why You Need A Pinterest Board Cover Strategy

Board covers are a vital part of creating visually appealing content and building your brand. Pinterest Board covers not only help tie your Pinterest account with your brand, but they are also eye-catching and give the viewer an easy overview as to what your Pinterest account has to offer.

What is a board cover on Pinterest?

A board cover is an image that acts as a visual guide to the content of a particular board. If you think of it as the cover of a book, you’re not far wrong.

Board covers allow you to put your signature style. Having your own personal signature style is vital to standing out from the crowd on Pinterest.

Well-made board covers are going to be the first thing your audience sees and it’s your chance to capture their attention.

Here’s an example of what my Pinterest Boards looks like:

Very few people have taken the time to make board covers!

Despite how important they are, very few people actually take the time to create impressive, visually distinct board covers. If you’re one of the ones that do, you’ve already got an edge over your competitors.

Board Covers can help with SEO

Since board covers can include keywords and hashtags, they are yet another tool in your search engine optimization (SEO) toolbox.

And because potential customers head to Pinterest for the images—it truly is a visual search engine—appearances are paramount.

Pinterest isn’t Twitter or Facebook, it’s primarily a vital search engine. You can’t just produce the same content you would for other social media sites and expect it to work on Pinterest.

However, aesthetic Pinterest board covers and other visually attractive content is a great way to access Pinterest’s 478 million monthly active users.

What size are board covers?

When it comes to creating your board cover, the best size to use is the same size as a standard pin. The maximum pin size you can use is a 2:3 aspect ratio or around 1000 x 1500 pixels.

If you make your board cover any bigger than that, or put it in a different aspect ratio, part of it will get cut off when viewed in people’s feeds.

Should I make Pinterest board covers?

Absolutely you should. They are a great way to build brand awareness and an import SEO tool.

How Do You Make a Board Cover on Pinterest?

Creating your own board covers is simple and easy to do.

Create custom board covers for most, if not all, of your boards

Custom boards are the best way to showcase your brand’s signature style. You can use graphics programs like Canva to quickly and easily create custom board covers.

Step 1: Create Your Template

The first thing you need to do when creating your own custom board covers is to create a template. This will set the dimensions for your future covers and streamline the process.

Use Custom dimensions for Board Covers

Most graphics programs don’t have the right sized template for a Pinterest board cover size, so remember to set your template to the same size as a standard pin, which is a 2:3 aspect ratio or around 1000 x 1500 pixels.

The benefit of using a standard pin size is that it serves a dual purpose in your marketing efforts.

All you need to do is find an appropriate pin that matches the content of your board, add some text that fits within the standard pin dimensions, add the appropriate keywords, and then link to content that matches the topic.

Using a pre-existing pin and customizing it for use as a board cover streamlines your marketing efforts, making sure you are making the best use of both your time and resources.

Step 2: Design Your Custom Pinterest Board Cover

Once you’ve set the template, you can import images, use custom fonts, and other design touches that help your brand stand out.

Download all the images to your desktop

Once you’re done editing your custom board cover, name the image and download it to your desktop. Remember that the maximum file size of a board cover is the same as that of a standard pin, 32 MB.

Step 3: How to add a board cover on pinterest

Click the Upload Image button on Pinterest and upload your custom board cover.

Remember to add the relevant keywords and hashtags to your new board cover.

If you’re including a URL, remember to set the URL of the image to connect to something related to the board, such as the relevant category on your blog or content of a similar topic on your website.

Once you’re done, pin the new cover image to the board you want it to be the cover of.

Step 4: Change your Pinterest Board Cover to the new, custom image

In order to change a Pinterest board cover, click on the pencil icon in the bottom right corner of your board.

In the box that appears, click on the Change option that you’ll find to the right of the Cover heading.

Scroll through until you find your custom image and then click on the Save Changes button.

Step 5: Repeat

Do these same simple steps for all of your boards to give them all custom cover images.

What to Do After Adding A Pinterest Board Cover

Once you have your custom board images in place, there are a couple of steps you can take to change or edit them.

How can I remove a Pinterest board cover?

The process of removing a board cover is easy. As per Step 4, all you need to is click on the pencil icon in the bottom right corner of your board.

In the box that appears, click on the Change option next to the Cover heading.

Scroll through until you’ve found the image you want to replace your current board image and then click on the Save Changes button.

Why take advantage of Pinterest board cover images?

Custom board covers are a fantastic way to enhance the visual appeal of your board, increase your SEO, and solidify your brand image.

Is it possible to change the cover of a section of Pinterest’s boards?

Unfortunately, you do need to change your board cover images one at a time. The good news is that it doesn’t take long to change a board cover.
