Everyone wants to be successful and be their own boss. The best way to do that is to take the time to really consider what you are good at and to then take it and market it for success. We live in a day and age where there is more to do now than ever before and a virtual assistant business is a great way to go.

What is a Virtual Assistant Business?

A virtual assistant is one that assists another person but that does not do so in person. So, unlike an assistant that goes into an office or a home or that follows a person around, a virtual assistant is one that completes necessary tasks over the computer. You can do things that you are good at, you can take the time to find out what skills are most in demand, or you can even learn new skills to figure out what is going to work best for you.

A virtual assistant business is very flexible and you can change it to fit your own skills, the market that you are entering, or you can work to find a client that fits what you are able to do and what you want to do. A virtual assistant is going to help assist in any way possible from posting on social media to helping to set up appointments.

What Skills do you need to Become a Virtual Assistant?

Since a virtual assistant is such a broad term, you can do just about anything and market your own skills. With a virtual assistant the main skills you are going to need are of course to be able to use a computer fluently. This means that you are going to need to be able to type, to handle basic computer programs, and you might even need to know your way around the internet so that you can get in contact with your client and so that you can deliver the work that you have promised. A virtual assistant is one that can be highly skilled in just about anything.

In order to be a good virtual assistant you need to be able to tailor your skills to the niche or the client that you are working with. You can hone your own skills and your own talents then find a client that matches them or learn new skills to land new clients. Basic organizational skills are also a huge plus as are time management and the ability to work with a client to get the outcome they are looking for. Taking the time to figure out what you want to do, what skills you have and what you can accomplish, and really working to hone those skills can make a big difference.

How Much Does a Virtual Assistant Make?

The overall salary of a virtual assistant changes based on a few factors. The first is that you are going to be the one setting the overall price and the cost of your services. You can set your own price so if you find a client that is willing to pay it, you can basically set your own salary. Depending on how many clients you take on and how much you work for them, you can make a decent living being a virtual assistant. You can make more money if you have a very specific skill set that other people may not have, you can make more money if you work more, and you can make more money as you gain experience and as you stay in the game longer.

When you first set out you may not make much but with experience and added clients you can make more. Depending on how you list your services you may make an hourly wage, you may make a wage based on what you do, or you may make a wage based on each individual task. You can always negotiate with your client but it is always best to start out by setting your minimum and working from there to determine how you want to price your services.

How to Market a Virtual Assistant Business

Marketing this type of business can be tricky. Flyers, both physical and virtual, are a great way to advertise prices and services and to get clients. You can also use social media, job boards, and posting sites to let people know that you are offering virtual assistant services. Of course, the longer you are in the game the more likely that word of mouth is going to be your best friend. If you do a great job, it is likely that your current clients are going to refer you to other people and are going to suggest that you work with other people. If you do a great job you may also be able to get more clients or get repeat clients that keep coming back.

Another great way to advertise is to simply tell people about your services. Chat boards or wanted ads online is also a great way to get your foot in the door and to let others know that you are starting a virtual assistant business and that you are looking to take on new customers. A virtual assistant is a wonderful asset and with the right skills and the right work ethic you can get the clients you want and you can become a great virtual assistant.
