Like many bloggers on Pinterest, maintaining website traffic from Pinterest in a post-pandemic and post-algorithm change world has been challenging. This is why we’re always testing new strategies and staying ahead with Pinterest’s current best practices and discovering what works.

In July 2021, we tested a new strategy for one of our food blogger clients. Leading up to the 4th of July celebrations (and the 1st of July for Canada), we created a new board using trending keywords that historically received a high volume of searches. We researched these keywords using trends.pinterest.com and included them in the board title, board description, and pin copy. We pinned heavily to this board leading up to the holiday, creating pin images specifically for it.

It worked! Our clients’ traffic began to trend upwards and stayed consistent through the 4th of July week.

Knowing this content isn’t evergreen and the trending keywords would lose steam a week afterward, we then archived the board and will resurface it again this same time next year, with new designs and refreshed keywords.

The success of this strategy has influenced how we approach seasonal trends for other clients and we’re currently planning our boards for Fall with this in mind.
