What happens when you invite someone to join a Pinterest board?

When you invite someone to a group board on Pinterest that invitation needs to be approved by the individual. That individual will receive an invitation notification by their messages, and will be able to decide if they want to join the board or not.

By making someone a collaborator of your board that means they can pin anything they want to the board, so make sure to invite someone that has relevant content, and will not spam the board. Any member of any Pinterest board can leave the board whenever they want to.

How do I invite people to join my board?

In Pinterest click your picture in the right hand corner to go to the main page, then click ‘Saved’ to view your created boards. Click the title of the board you want to make a group board. From there you will see your profile picture with a big + next to it. From here you can select the names of the people that you want to invite and then click invite. You also will have the option to send them a direct link to join, this is a great option if you want to share your board in a group setting.

Group boards that are active, engaged and stay on topic are very popular and attractive for Pinners to join. In order to cultivate this type of environment I suggest setting up ‘rules’ in the group description and not allowing just anyone to join so it is a more controlled setting. Can people see when you join a group board?

If the group board is public everyone will be able to see that you joined the board. If the board is set as private, then only the creator of the board and selected collaborators will see the board. To check if the group is public or private, simply click on Groups and select the group, the privacy settings will be below the group’s name on the top left side. No matter if the group board is public or private it will show up with all your other boards. You can easily tell a board is a group board because there will be multiple profile pictures by the title. In the upper left hand corner will show if it is locked (private) or public.

How do you grow a group board on Pinterest?

Group boards are a great way to expand your reach and increase your engagement on your pins. There are several ways to grow your group board. To begin with, you can read everything you need to know about collaborative Pinterest boards here. You can then invite people that follow you to join your group. Followers can be increased through better content for the audience. There is a high probability that people who have followed your Pinterest account will accept your invitation to join the group board that has similar content.

You can also create a pin to expand your group and creating a campaign specifically to increase the collaborators to the group. It will help you find targeted contributors for your group to ensure the content is on topic. It is important that you set standards for your group board and expectations. Are they limited to the amount of pins they can pin each day? Are they required to repin others content for the same ratio of content they are putting in, or even higher? The group success will greatly depend on the type of collaborators you invite or accept. You can set rules and if they do not follow them remove them as collaborators from the group.  Keep in mind that if you allow spam, this will cause other pinners to leave the group and will not help anyone.

Another very effective method to grow your group board is to link up with influencers. If you are able to get an influence for your target audience to join your group board, that would give a huge boost to the number of people following your Pinterest page or joining the group board. The key is the find the right influencer that your target audience will like to follow.

Expanding your reach

One clever trick to grow your own group board is to join other group boards in a similar space. Getting in with similar groups is a great way to connect and then share your own group board. The members of the group should already be part of your target audience, so that should make for good hunting groups for you.

Lastly, you create content that adds some value to your followers. You can do a lot of things to grow your group board but at the end of the day, it is all about the reason why people should be part of your group board. Your posts need to be engaging, relevant and enticing on a regular basis to keep all the followers hooked to the board. Want more ideas on how to grow? Read 7 actionable Pinterest growth hacks.
