How can I increase my social shares?

Sometimes getting shares is as simple listening to what people are talking about on various channels and what they need, then engaging accordingly. Don’t just post and run. Here’s a step by step example that illustrates the mechanics and clockwork agenda of getting more shares :

Listen and engage.

  1. You wrote an article.
  2. Through using Twitter Advanced Search you found that XYZ user also wrote an article on the same topic and shared it on his account.
  3. You then share XYZ user’s post first (give before you ask for something in return). You later engage the user and say something chatty and friendly like “Hey, I noticed that you wrote and shared an article on the same topic I recently wrote an article about, would you mind RTing my article? ” We’ve tried this strategy and 9 times out of 10 it works! It gives credibility to both parties.

You could also use this same strategy on other social media channels. It tends to be a little harder on Facebook since some personal pages are private, but it is possible.

The really great element about this strategy, is that it also helps you build robust relationships with other users who have similar interests. Strengthen that relationship with them moving forward with other ideas and articles– each relationship could turn into a partnership of sharing each other’s content.

Utilize social media advertising.
